Hi. It’s so good to have you here. Thanks for taking the time to read a little more about me and my work.
My name is Michaela Hinson, and I am a psychotherapist for neurodivergent adults in DC and Virginia. When I first started providing individual therapy, I focused primarily on working with autistic and chronically ill adults. Over the past decade, I’ve continued to see how helpful it is to also draw from what we know about healing from complex trauma, and I’ve increasingly integrated this into my practice.
My work also draws heavily from attachment theory. I’m most interested in getting to know you. I'm curious what you spend your time doing, the places and people that bring you comfort, and what helps you find a little peace.
Through lived experience, a lot of reading, and conversations with others, I’ve learned just how common it is for neurodivergent people to experience attachment ruptures that go unnoticed in childhood and beyond. When these ruptures are repeatedly left unrepaired, their effects can shape us throughout our lives, particularly as demands increase through challenging schooling, professional work, and relationships.
When clients find me, they’re often on the brink of burnout. Together, we can slow things down, make sense of what’s happening, and figure out what it looks like to build a life that is sustainable for you.
I work with adults navigating:
Autism, ADHD, AuDHD, OCD, CPTSD, and other experiences of neurodivergence and trauma
The ongoing impact of chronic illness and health challenges
Stress and burnout related to work, school, relationships, or major life transitions
Mood, overwhelm, inner criticism, and the feeling that you’re constantly trying to keep up
Exploring gender and sexuality, including identity, expression, and affirmation
Individual sessions typically run 53 minutes. My rate is $200/session. All sessions are virtual.
